Ireland's Padraig Harrington came in from the cold when he fired aTaylorMade Burner 2.0 Iron Set 4-PW, SW with Steel Shafts

course-record 10-under-par 61 in Thursday's opening round of the Transitions Championship in West Florida.

 

 

Down to 90th in the world rankings when he teed off here at the Innisbrook Resorts Copperhead course, the three-time Major winner held an early five-stroke clubhouse lead on his return to action after failing to qualify for last week's World Championship event.

 

Harrington, putting with wonderful feeling and precision, started with back-to-back birdies, finished with three in a row and had five more in between in the lowest round of his TaylorMade Burner 2.0 Iron Set 4-PW, SW with Steel Shafts

 

With more than half the field home, Harrington led by three from American Will Claxton, who shot a 64 and by five from the group tied for third that included Australian John Senden and Americans Kenny Perry, Cameron Tringale, Jasin Dufner and Williams McGirt.

 

All posted 5-under 66s

 

Masters champion Charl Schwartzel was 15 strokes behind fourth from last, while Sergio Garcia shot a 68, Brian Davis a 69, Paul Casey and Greg Owen 70s and Martin Laird a 73.
